NDO – The Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) launched a campaign, themed ‘The MIC towards beloved islands’, to raise funds for fishermen, islanders and forces working and living in the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, in Hanoi on April 22.
The launch event was attended by Minister of Information and Communication Nguyen Bac Son, personnel and staff from the ministry, and other relevant agencies.
The campaign’s launch ceremony raised a total of VND 4.1 billion (US$ 190,000) to support fishermen and law enforcement forces, and encourage them to stand firm in protecting national sovereignty over seas and islands.

According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan, from April 19-28, the MIC, in collaboration with the High Command of the Navy, is organising a number of activities including exhibitions and presentations of historical documents and maps affirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over Truong Sa, establishing two post offices on Truong Sa and Sinh Ton islands, and implementing programmes to aid soldiers and officials working on the Truong Sa archipelago and the DK 1 oil rig.
