Entitled ‘Peace- Prosperity – Co-operation’, the event is organised by the Ha Long city municipal People’s Committee in collaboration with Japan’s Wanokai International Culture Association to promote cultural exchanges and co-operation between the two countries. It is also an activity to celebrate 42th anniversary of the Vietnam – Japan diplomatic relationship.
During the festival, children from the Northeast of Japan where was hit by the earthquake and tsunami four years ago, presented cherry trees to children in Quang Ninh province as an act to show their gratitude to the Vietnamese people for their support.
As many as 500 cherry blossom branches from Oikinawa, Japan are showcased. The festival, which lasts on April 5, offers a diverse range of cultural activities, including exhibitions featuring culture, tourism and cuisine from Vietnam and Japan, Japanese animated film screenings and workshops for children on health care, education and the environment.
A series of artistic repertoires such as Vietnamese – Japanese dances, Vietnamese-Japanese traditional and modern fashion shows, and a laser light performance were also set up to entertain local audiences and visitors.
The cherry blossom festival is organised to strengthen the solidarity between the Vietnamese and Japanese people, to facilitate tourism development, and to help raise the image of the land and people of Ha Long city and Quang Ninh province, thus contributing to attracting more investment from Japan to the locality, said Head of Ha Long city’s culture and information centre, Nguyen Trung Hau.
