NDO – The 13th Vietnam Poetry Day themed “Towards the Nation’s Seas and Islands” saw the attendance of thousands of local and international poetry lovers at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi on March 5.
According to poet Huu Thinh, President of the Vietnam Writers’ Association, the Poetry Day in Hanoi, which was held at the same time as other festive activities at over 100 locations across the country, attracted 150 poets, writers and translators from 43 countries and territories, showing the great power of poetry in bringing diverse people together.
The area for Vietnam’s traditional poetry saw the presence of students from six universities and nearly 20 poetry clubs from Hanoi and other eight localities. Outstanding Vietnamese poets were introduced and 10 famous publishing houses were invited to present works about Vietnam’s fights for independence while poets from the Commands of Navy and Border Guard recited works about the nation’s seas and islands.
The Poetry Day was very successful as it was associated with the third International Conference Promoting Vietnamese Literature and the second Asia-Pacific Poetry Festival, helping share Vietnamese poetry with the wider world, Thinh said.
Luginov Nikolai Alekseevich, President of the Union of Russian Writers spoke highly of the national event and expressed his hope that Vietnam would maintain such a cultural event.
