The program is co-held by Youkiza theater, and two Vietnamese partners, Youth Theater and Vietnam Puppetry Theater, in Hanoi with support from the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam.
Youkiza Theater artists will bring to the stage kyrin marionette dance, and perform parts of the Tsunayakata play and Yaoya-Oshichi/ Oshichi, the greengrocer’s daughter play.
They will also meet and talk with audiences about the Japan marionette performances at a workshop which will last until March 23.
Their marionette performances will be put on stage from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on March 21 and 22 and are opened free for public audience.
Vietnam Puppet Theater is located at 361 Truong Chinh, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi.
The Marionette Theater Youkiza was founded in 1635 by Youki Magosaburo I.
Its experimental productions include actor-puppet performances, in which the puppeteers both manipulate puppets and perform as characters themselves, the application of premodern puppetry techniques, and the insertion of lantern visuals. The theater has continually sought to develop and combine new aspects to enhance their distinctive performance style.
