Together with the Vietnam National Committe e for the women’s progress (FTWP), Phu Yen provincial FTWP has been actively implementing the National Strategies on gender equality in the period of 2011-2020 with 7 targets, 22 criteria allocated to related departments and sectors. After the 4-year implementation, the criterion of implementing gender equality in the sectors of politics, economy, labor, education, training, medicine, culture…have shown positive results. Currently, the discrepancy in the number of male and female learners at all levels has been smaller. The proportion of females at college and university level is increasing. Particularly, to increase the proportion of females working in state offices, the standing board of the Provincial Party Committee has issued the “Scheme on piloting to increase the number of titles for deputy positions to create cadre sources of leading”. From the year 2012 up to now, the province has designated 13 female cadres to be vice directors at departments, sectors or equivalent level, which has increased the number of female leaders at the positions of directors, vice directors and equivalent in the province to 30/161, accounting for 18.6%…

Besides the above-mentioned positive achievement, the task of gender equality in Phu Yen still remains many issues which make us ponder and think more. According to Mrs. Tran Thi Minh Chanh, former national assembly deputy-in-charge of social issues, the proportion of females joining the political sector in the province has not been corresponding to the potentials of current females. The competent, well-qualified female cadres are plentiful, meanwhile, reality has shown that females working in the management sector face with not little hindrance in asserting their roles both in families and societies.

To well implement the targets of enhancing gender equality and the competence, positions of females oriented by Phu Yen Board FTWP , Comrade Tran Quang Nhat, member of the standing board of the Provincial Party Committee cum PPC vice chairman, head of the provincial FTWP board, said: departments, sectors, localities have to actively intermingle gender equality issues with constructing, implementing actions of the localities and units. Party Committees at all levels, government need to direct, orientate and inspect the task of gender equality. Information, propagation and education on enhancing the awareness of gender equality needs to be enhanced more, particularly among males. Besides, the women themselves need to make efforts, strive more, develop more and be more creative in working, studying to actively participate in activities in all social life to continue to assert their roles both in families and society.
