NDO – Thousands of Hanoians participated in the 2015 Olympic Day Run for public health, launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Olympic Committee at King Ly Thai To Monument early this morning.
Among attendees were Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Miss Vietnam 2014 Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, officials of the sports sector and representatives from ministries, agencies, organisations and armed forces in Hanoi.
The event was among practical activities to celebrate Vietnam Sports Day (March 27) and mark the 69th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal for mass participation in sports activities (March 27, 1946-2015).
The Olympic Day Run aims to promote the value of President Ho Chi Minh’s thought on sports and physical training, as well as to communicate the international Olympic ideal on solidarity and friendship, and raise public awareness on the importance of physical exercise for people’s general health, said Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh at the launch.
At the same time the launch ceremony was being held in Hanoi, the run was also enthusiastically responded to in cities and provinces across the country drawing the participation of millions of people.
Arts and sports performances were also organised during the Olympic Day Run, contributing to creating an animated atmosphere and drawing people’s attention.
