Typhoon season: Vietnam faces heightened risk this year

(VOV) – Meteorologists at a seminar in Hanoi on February 3 warned that the 2015 storm season is likely to be a doozy, with more storms and major typhoons than average.

Hoang Duc Cuong, National Centre for Hydro – Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) Director said Vietnam will face some 4 or 5 major storms and low tropical pressures areas this year.

He also predicted that there would be around nine or ten storms and low tropical pressures in the East Sea and they would be more dangerous than last year, potentially causing landslides in the mountainous areas.

Last year, the nation encountered five major storms and three low tropical pressure areas in the East Sea including three storms that directly impacted the mainland.
