NDO – A ceremony was held in Hanoi on February 7 for three major roads named after influential figures Vo Nguyen Giap, Vo Chi Cong and Vo Van Kiet.


The event was attended by Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, Pham Quang Nghi, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Nguyen The Thao, and leaders of the Ministries of Defence and Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with relatives of the influential figures as well as officials and people of the capital.


The Vo Chi Cong road, with a total length of 4.25 kilometres and width of 57.5 – 64.5 metres, connects the south of Nhat Tan bridge with Tay Ho and Cau Giay districts; meanwhile the 10.5 kilometre long and 70 – 100 metre wide Vo Nguyen Giap road links the north of the bridge to Noi Bai International Airport, passing through Dong Anh and Me Linh districts.


The Vo Van Kiet Street measures 10 kilometres in length and 23 metres in width, connecting Thang Long Bridge and Noi Bai Airport.


The installation of the roads aims to complete the transportation system of Noi Bai International Airport as well contributes to the economic development of Hanoi’s northern region.


At the ceremony, delegates reviewed the revolutionary activities and great contributions of the influential figures to the Vietnamese Party and State in the cause of national building and defence.


Vo Chi Cong was former President of the State Council, former Chairman of the National Defence Council and former Deputy Prime Minister; meanwhile Vo Van Kiet served as the former Prime Minister.


General Vo Nguyen Giap is well-known as an eminent disciple of President Ho Chi Minh and the first General and Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People’s Army.


The naming of the roads not only shows the tribute of the capital’s Party, government and people to the former leaders but also educates younger generations about the national patriotic tradition and national pride.
