Construction of gas processing plant begins
PM Nguyen Tan Dung on Saturday attended a ceremony to start construction of a gas processing plant in the southernmost province of Ca Mau.
The plant, part of the Ca Mau Gas-Electricity-Fertiliser Complex, is designed to process 6.2 million cubic meters of natural gas taken from gas fields in the south-western region on a daily basis. It is expected to diversify highly-value oil and gas products in the region, ensure the national energy security, and contribute to the local socio-economic development.
With a total investment of nearly $300 million, the PM3-Ca Mau gas pipeline currently brings ashore 6.25 million cubic meters a day to supply sufficient gas for two power plants and a fertiliser plant.
PM chairs teleconference on sustainable poverty reduction
PM Nguyen Tan Dung chaired a national teleconference on sustainable poverty reduction to review the work in 2014 and devise a plan for 2015 for the Central Steering Committee on Sustainable Poverty Reduction (CSCR) in the 2011-2020 period.
In 2015, the CSCR will strive to reduce the rate of poor households nationwide below 5% and 30% in disadvantaged districts.
The targeted rate of poor households in the 2016-2020 period is 1-1.5% per year nationwide and 3-4% per year in disadvantaged districts and communes. Disadvantaged people will have better access to social services and incomes of poor households in the 2016-2020 period are expected to be doubled compared to 2015.
PM ratifies cultural diplomacy strategy
The PM has approved the Viet Nam Cultural Diplomacy Strategy till 2020, with a vision to 2030.
The strategy sets the goals of active international integration in culture to introduce Viet Nam’s cultural values to the world while acquiring human’s culture to establish a comprehensive culture to increase the nation’s status and prestige and contribute to ensuring the country’s sustainable development.
One door-one stop model inaugurated at Lao Bao-Densavan border gate
Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Lao counterpart Somsavad Lengsavath opened the “One door-one stop” model at the Lao Bao- Densavan international border gate.
The inauguration of the model has shown the efforts of the two nations in simplifying and harmonizing procedures and made Laos become a connection point for nations in the Mekong River area.
Year-end meeting with foreign diplomats held
Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh hosted a year-end get-together with the diplomatic corps, assuring them that Viet Nam is determined to deepen ties with countries globally in 2015.
Moroccan Ambassador and head of the diplomatic corps El Houcine Fardani hailed Viet Nam as an active and responsible member of the international community, adding that the country’s election as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council is the world recognition of its progress in improving human rights at home.
He reiterated strong will to foster the growing ties between Viet Nam and countries as well as international organizations in the time to come.
Global leaders congratulate Vietnamese Party
Leaders from China, Cuba, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Russia have congratulated Vietnam on the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV).
In its congratulatory message, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) expressed its belief that under the leadership of the CPV led by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Viet Nam will successfully realise its renovation cause and welcome the 12th National Party Congress.
Meeting marks 65 years of VN- Hungary diplomatic ties
The Viet Nam-Hungary Friendship Association and the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations in Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony to mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Hungary (February 3, 1950- February 3, 2015).
In 2014, trade between HCM City and Hungary reached nearly $44 million, up 24% from the previous year; more than 1,200 Hungarian travellers visited the city.
Meanwhile, Hungarian businesses invested $3.7 million in four projects in HCM City.
JICA to offer technical support for Vietnamese fishermen
The Chairman of the Japan-Viet Nam Friendship Association in Sakai City, Hitoshi Kato asserted that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is building a special technical support program to help Vietnamese fishermen make inroads into high-grade seafood markets of Japan and other countries at a meeting with President Truong Tan Sang.
He also vowed to do his utmost to make the ocean tuna export cooperation program between Viet Nam and Japan a success.
The President said he hopes the program will be expanded to other Vietnamese localities.
Exports of garments, footwear rise in January
Viet Nam earned $1.9 billion from exporting garment in January, up 1.2% against the same period last year.
The exports of footwear in the first month of the year reached $1.05 billion, a year-on-year increase of 23.2%./.
