NDO – Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on February 7 presented 100 gifts, each worth VND 1 million, to disadvantaged families in Thua Thien – Hue province as Tet (traditional Lunar New Year) festival is approaching.
The recipients included underprivileged households, families of Agent Orange (AO) Dioxin victims and natural disaster victims from Loc An and Loc Dien communes in Phu Loc district.
The Deputy PM extended his wishes for a warm and happy Tet holiday to the recipients, stressing that the Party and State always attach special care to policies concerning beneficiary families and poor households.
He urged the two commune’s local authorities to pay more attention to ensure social welfare for residents and create favourable conditions to help them rise above poverty.
On the same day, Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan presented 190 Tet gifts, worth VND 190 million in total, to poor fisheries in Dong Hoa district, Song Cau town and Tuy Hoa city in Phu Yen province.
He also presented four fishermen with VND 300 million each to help them build their offshore fishing vessels.
He wished the fishermen good health and a happy Tet festival, encouraging them to cling on to their traditional fishing ground and contribute to safeguarding the national maritime sovereignty.
Also yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai attended the ‘Bring Tet to underprivileged people and AO/ Dioxin victims’ programme in Son Ha district, Quang Ngai province.
He presented 22 cows, each worth VND 12 million, to poor households in Son Thanh, Son Giang and Son Ha communes. 100 poor households and families of AO/ Dioxin victims also received VND 1 million each at the event. The money came from the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) Central Committee.
Speaking at the event, the Government official praised efforts made by the VRCS in caring for the beneficiaries, urging the organisation to work harder to maintain funding so that they can continue providing help for those who are in need.
