PANO – The Ministry of National Defence on February 6th held a ceremony to honour coaches and athletes with remarkable achievements at the 7th National Sports Congress and at international competitions last year. Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defence Minister attended the event.

In 2014, the army team ranked the third at the 7th National Sports Congress with 75 gold, 54 silver and 91 bronze medals. Military athletes won 30 golds, 11 silvers and 13 bronzes at international competitions.


At the honouring ceremony, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Tran Duc Phan highly appreciated the contributions of military athletes to the nation’s sport over the past time, hoping that they would continue obtaining high achievements at coming domestic and international competitions.


General Ty said that the army should develop its strong sports, train young talented coaches and athletes and build prestigious sports centres to make further contributions to the nation’s sport development.
