International visitors to Ho Chi Minh City rise in January

Number of international tourists to Ho Chi Minh City in January increased 8% over the same period last year.


NDO – Ho Chi Minh City welcomed more than 412,000 foreign tourists in the first month of 2015, an increase of 8% compared to the same period last year.


The city’s tourism sector earned a total revenue of nearly VND7.8 trillion (US$365.5 million) in January, a year-on-year rise of 7%.


In 2014, the number of international visitors to Ho Chi Minh City reached nearly 4.4 million, accounting for 53% of the whole country; whilst its revenue from tourism was estimated at VND86 trillion (US$4.03 billion), accounting for 34% of the country.


Geared towards promoting sustainable tourism development, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to promote regional links and diversification of tourism products as well as implement the campaign ‘Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism is responsible for the environment’.


In addition, the city will develop tourism promotion programs and co-operative activities on tourism development with other localities and countries in the region as well as improve the quality of cultural and tourism events.


Ho Chi Minh City set a target of attracting approximately 19.3 million domestic and 4.7 million foreign visitors, earning nearly VND98.3 trillion (US$4.6 billion)
