The cold snap will first cover northeastern provinces tomorrow evening and then northwestern areas before entering the central region, the center said.

As of March 1, the cold weather will cover the northern region, and particularly, bitter cold will affect northwestern provinces, it added.

From early March on, about four other cold fronts will take turns entering northern Vietnam, bringing temperatures of 14 to 20 degrees, the news website VietNamNet quoted Le Thanh Hai, director of the center, as saying.

In April, two or three cold spells will also enter the same region, while in May the number will be two, Hai forecasted.

Affected by the ongoing cold snap, many northern provinces will have rain, scattered showers and possible thunderstorm from Saturday night.

Northern and mid central provinces will experience the same rainy weather as of Sunday, March 1.

From early in the morning of March 1, the Gulf of Tonkin and the north area of the East Vietnam Sea, including the waters of Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, will experience rough seas and winds of 49 kph and squalls of up to 74 kph.
