Locals and foreigners visiting Cambodia’s sites of interest increased sharply during the three days of Lunar New Year celebrations, according to tourism officials.

Siem Reap—home to the world-renowned Angkor Archaeological Park—received around 69,000 visitors, a 25 percent increase from the same period last year.

Foreigners, mainly from China, Vietnam, and western countries, accounted for half the visitors to the famous Siem Reap temples.

The port city of Sihanoukville welcomed more than 63,000 people, a 27 percent annual increase.

Meanwhile, Kampot province, with its fresh seafood, Bokor Mountain and the Teuk Chou waterfall, also enjoyed a 14 percent increase in visitors compared to 2014, welcoming 76,000 visitors.

Koh Kong province, near the Thai border, is emerging as a popular coastal destination, receiving more than 8,500 visitors, up 7.5 percent.-VNA
