— Vietnam is planning to organize exhibitions of historical and legal evidence proving its indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes abroad in 2015, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan has recently been quoted by the Vietnam Government Portal as saying. The first exhibition of its kind will be conducted in the Czech Republic, and the same events will later be organized in other countries, including the U.S., France and other European nations, Tuan said.

— Nearly 25,000 people including more than 12,900 foreigners flocked to the Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi from February 17- 22 to pay tribute to the late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum, on the occasion of Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, the mausoleum’s management board reported. These visitors showed their respect to the leader of the nation, who devoted his life to national independence, freedom and the happiness of the people.


— About 536 traffic accidents occurred nationwide over the past nine-day Tet (Lunar New Year) vacation, from February 15 to 23, killing 317 people and injuring 509 others, the National Traffic Safety Committee said in a report on Monday. Compared to the same-long Tet vacation in 2014, the death toll increased by 12.4 percent, while both the numbers of accidents and injured people dropped by 6.9 percent and 13.9 percent respectively.


— More than 6,200 people have been hospitalized nationwide from February 15 to 22, the first eight days of the Tet (Lunar New Year) vacation that ended on Monday, for treatment of injuries caused by their fighting over their conficts, the Ministry of Health reported, adding that 14 of these people have died.


— One body of the three students who have gone missing while sea bathing off the My Khe Beach in the central province of Quang Ngai has been recovered, local authorities reported on Monday. These three students were among the five ones who bathed off the beach on Sunday afternoon. During the bathing, they were all drifted away by strong waves, but rescuers saved two of them.

— The number of sea international travelers to Vietnam has sharply increased during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday that emded on Monday, with over 10,000 visitors coming to various ports across the country. In Phu Quoc island, of the southern province of Kien Giang, the number of foreign visitors during the 2015 Tet has increased by 80 percent compared to last year’s Tet, local travel authorities said.


— Nearly 1,000 flights operated by aviation firms in Vietnam were delayed due to different reasons from February 15 to 22, the first eight days of the nine-day Tet (Lunar New Year) vacation that ended on Monday, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam said on Monday, adding that at least 35 flights were also cancelled during the period.

— A ceremony to mark the 226th anniversary of the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory over China’s Qing invaders in 1789 was solemnly conducted at the Tao Dan Cultural House in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City on Monday evening, with the participation of many city officials and a large number of local residents.


— The Book Street, a cultural event annually organized in Ho Chi Minh City on every Tet (Lunar New Year), was closed on Sunday on Ham Nghi Street in the city’s downtown, earning a total revenue of VND4,505 billion (US$211.5 million), up 32.5 percent compared with the same event last year.
