Police read the arrest warrant to Nguyen Tran Bao Anh (R) in the southern province of Long An. Anh was accused of running a child pornography website with some 3,000 users.
Police on Thursday arrested two men in southern Vietnam after cracking down on a child pornography website that had around 1,300 video clips and nearly 700 photos of boys as young as 7 years old.
Nguyen Tran Bao Anh, 20, confessed that he had earned around VND200 million (US$9,200) from the website. It is unknown when he started it.
Investigators said the site’s server was located in the US.
In order to view its contents, one had to sign up and pay a fee. Registered users, coming from across the world, were also charged when downloading video clips.
Police said payments were made in a digital currency and finally transferred to Anh’s bank account. Users could also post clips and photos for rewards.
They also found photos of Anh himself engaging in sex acts with allegedly Vietnamese boys aged 7-9 years old, when raiding his place.
Nguyen Le Viet, 27, one of the site’s 3,000 registered users, was also arrested Thursday.
Viet was accused of manipulating some 200 boys from the US and the UK, aged 9-12, into making pornography videos and sending them to him, local news website Vietnamnet reported.
Police was informed by the FBI that the US agency had received nearly 700 complaints about Viet’s acts as of July last year, according to Vietnamnet.
He allegedly pretended to be girls aged 10-12 to befriend foreign boys online, and then asked them for sex clips.
After that he would blackmail them. He forced them to keep sending more clips by threatening to tell their parents.
Viet posted some of the clips on Anh’s website.
Investigation continues.
Pornography is illegal in Vietnam. Those found spreading pornographic contents could face a maximum jail term of 15 years.
