Prices of petroleum products in Vietnam have been cut for the second time this year as world prices continue to tumble, with petrol dropping more than VND1,800 a litre at the bowser.

Second petrol price cut since early 2015

The Ministries of Finance, and Industry and Trade said the price of petrol was cut effective 4pm on January 21.

The biggest cut was on 92 octane, which fell VND1,897 a litre to VND15,677 a litre.

Kerosene was cut VND1,494 a litre to VND15,620 a litre, diesel was cut VND1,459 a litre to VND15,179 a litre, and fuel oil was cut VND1,078 a litre to VND11,856 a litre.

It was the second price cut ordered since the beginning of the year and the 12th price reduction since early 2014.

Leaders from the state-owned Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrolimex) said the price cut was due to tumbling prices on the world petroleum market.

Petrol traders were also asked to increase their use of the petrol price stabilisation fund, from VND500 per litre to VND800 per litre, to be applied to all petroleum products.
