Hanoi is to get a National Museum of Nature after the government approved a proposal by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST).

Vietnam to get Museum of Nature by next decade

The museum, covering 32 hectares, is scheduled for completion by 2025 and will focus on research, exhibition and assistance for affiliated museums across the country, while promoting public awareness of the need for natural and environmental protection.

Two locations are being considered: the Quoc Oai ecological urban area in three communes of Liep Tuyet, Ngoc Liep and Ngoc My in Quoc Oai District; and the Culture-Tourism Village of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups in Dong Mo area of Son Tay Township.

The museum would encompass indoor exhibition area and natural exhibits such as forests, caves, stone mountains, stone parks, and a geopark, along with an aquarium, as well as public activity areas, research facilities, administrative offices and service areas.

Funding would come from both the state budget and private contributions.

The museum will be built in two phases, from 2015-2020 and from 2021-2025.

VAST is coordinating with relevant ministries and agencies to implement the project.
