Thai Son Nam women team of Vietnam claimed the champion title at the 12th edition of the the international futsal tournament for Southeast Asian clubs which concluded in Jakarta (Indonesia) on January 18th.


After two victories against UPI Bandung of Indonesia (4-2) and Felda of Malaysia (4-2), Thai Son Nam faced Indonesian rivals from UNJ Jakarta in the final game. A 2 – 2 draw was just enough for Vietnamese girls wining the Cup thanks to their previous results with 7 points, or 2 points higher than the Indonesian opponents. Player Huyen Linh double scored the balls. The team was awarded USD4,000 in cash prize. Runner-ups were UNJ Jakarta with 5 points, and UPI Bandung with 4 points.


In the men’s event, Hai Phuong Nam team of Vietnam (playing for the very first time in the international level) had a 2 – 2 draw in their first match against defending champion IPC FC from Indonesia. However, Vietnamese players were defeated 4-6 by Felda of Malaysia. In the final game, they met Libido FC of Indonesia and fixed the score at 3 – 3 to secure the third place. Players Quoc Hung, Quang Vinh and Van Trung scored the goals for Vietnam. The USD1,500 cash prize went to Hai Phuong Nam.


Meanwhile defending champion IPC FC also had a victory 5-3 to its Malaysian rivals from Felda in the final game.


The international futsal tournament for Southeast Asian clubs was held by the Persatuan Sepakbola Seluruh Indonesia (PSSI)/ Football Association of Indonesia from January 16th – 18th for both men and women players from Malaysia, Vietnam, and the host Indonesia./.
