At the conference (VNA)
NDO – The Steering Committee for the Central Highlands (SCCH) held a conference in Dak Lak province to review the performance of the committee in 2014 and deploy key tasks for 2015.
Speaking at the conference, Politburo member and Minister of the Public Security, Head of the SCCH said thanks to the leadership of the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly and Government, and the close co-ordination between the SCCH and relevant ministries and localities, the Central Highlands provinces have made significant achievements in the past year.
In 2015, the region should continue to focus on speeding up vocational training and generating more jobs, while continuing with production investment and preferential credit policies for disadvantaged groups, General Quang said.
More attention should also be paid to consolidate the great national unity bloc and make full use of its advantages in order to maintain political stability, promote growth and improve the lives of ethnic minorities, he added.
On this occasion, the SCCH presented 16,000 gifts worth a total of VND8 billion to policy beneficiaries and needy ethnic minority households in the region.
The Tay Nguyen Central Highlands region comprises five provinces: Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum and Lam Dong provinces.
In 2014, the Central Highlands provinces posted a GDP growth rate of 8.74%, while per capita income in regional localities reached VND34.9 million per year. The provinces generated jobs for 61,000 people while providing vocational training for 99,000 others. 346,000 households escaped from poverty in 2014, bringing the poverty rate in the region down to 10.12%.
Ethnic groups in the region also benefited from many preferential credit policies of the State and local authorities. They are provided with loans to invest in production or build clean water and sanitation facilities. At the same time, educational and health care services in the region saw remarkable progress in terms of both quantity and quality. The number of ethnic students leaving school has decreased dramatically and more boarding schools have been built.
