Ho Chi Minh City police Friday arrested 10 people behind a gambling site that allegedly transferred more than VND1 trillion (US$46.88 million) to overseas the past few months.

They said 12bet.com has its server in the Philippines and most of those running it are foreigners.

To Cong Hung, 33, ran the website’s operations in Vietnam. He is also the owner of the Vietnamese edition of Attitude, a popular British gay lifestyle magazine,

Hung helped others open bank accounts to receive money from gamblers across Vietnam, mostly for betting on sports.

The group sent millions of dollars from losers to the owners of the site every month.

The police are investigating further into the case.

Gambling is illegal in Vietnam. The police said they tracked tens of millions of dollars in online betting on a daily basis during the 2014 World Cup.
