The workshop attracts 80 water managers and other key community leaders in Vietnam’s water supply sector

NDO – A workshop on managing rural water systems was organised in Bac Giang and Thai Nguyen provinces from November 4-8 by East Meets West (EMW).

The workshop, providing technical and administrative training for local water system managers to increase their effectiveness in long term operation and management, attracted the participation of representatives from the Center for Rural Water and Environmental Sanitation (CERWASS) of Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, Binh Dinh and Ben Tre provinces, as well as other related government departments.

The workshop focused on operations and management processes, and covers topics such as customer service, financial management, best practices in maintaining equipment and pipes to avoid water loss, and communication skills.

At the workshop, about 80 water managers and other key community leaders in Vietnam’s water supply sector will share and learn from each other’s experiences.

One of the significant topics at the workshop is a public-private partnership model which has proven effective and sustainable in Lao.

Capacity development for stakeholders in clean water supply and sanitation is a key component of EMW’s WASHOBA Program (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Output-Based Approach), which is funded through a VND 133 billion grant from the Australian Government.

The program includes two components, water and sanitation, which are integrated to achieve a common goal: to provide people in disadvantaged, rural communities in Ben Tre, Binh Dinh, Thai Nguyen and Bac Giang provinces with greater access to clean water and improved sanitation and hygiene.
