Vietnamese National Assembly deputy Truong Trong Nghia, from Ho Chi Minh City, is complaining that another parliamentarian has written articles on his blog that are very offensive to him.
In reports sent to President Truong Tan Sang and the head of the NA’s delegation of HCMC, Nghia said that Hoang Huu Phuoc, another NA deputy also from the city, wrote at least four articles on his blog that “slander, defame and insult” him from July 8, 2014, with the latest published on October 17.
In talking with Tuoi Tre on the sidelines of the NA session on Monday, Tran Du Lich, deputy head of the HCMC legislature delegation, said he had received Nghia’s report and the delegation would have a meeting on this issue.
According to Lich, in his 10-page report, Nghia demands that Phuoc show evidence for his “offensive” blogs. Lich added that the delegation will also ask Phuoc for evidence.
“This is an issue of honor of a parliamentarian, so I personally think it would be resolved in a meeting of our delegation,” Lich said.
Last year, Phuoc was criticized severely for writing on his blog an entry “Duong Trung Quoc and His Four Big Stupidities” in which he libeled Quoc, also a NA deputy and well-known historian, using extremely offensive language.
Lich told Tuoi Tre that he “absolutely objected the use of personal blogs to criticize or offend others. It is better to discuss differences face to face between people involved”.
No apologies so far
Nghia requested that the delegation take measures to protect his dignity and honor, and to prevent Phuoc’s similar acts in the future.
On Monday afternoon, Tuoi Tre met Phuoc on the sidelines of the NA session and asked for an interview but was rejected.
Phuoc, however, said that he had not known about Nghia’s sending a report to the HCMC delegation.
Phuoc said he would continue blogging, but would no longer mention names in his articles.
Also yesterday afternoon, Nghia told Tuoi Tre that the HCMC delegation has asked Phuoc to apologize, but he has made no apologies so far.
Phuoc, however, has changed a number of sentences and words in the articles, Nghia said.
“If Phuoc does not agree with my view on some issues, he can tell me or debate with me directly or at the NA meetings, or even through blogs. But I do not accept the use of offensive and crude words in blogs to slander and insult others,” Nghia said.
