Three 11-year-old boys drown in Binh Phuoc stream

Police of Binh Phuoc Province on Friday found and retrieved the bodies of three 11-year-old boys who had gone missing earlier the same day from a stream near their elementary school.

Autopsy concluded that the three boys, Nguyen Ngoc Tien, Tran Duc Hung and Bui Chi Phuc, died of drowning, the police of the southern Vietnamese province said.

The boys are thought to have gone to the stream to play on Friday noon after their morning class was over.

The events leading up to his drowning cannot be determined yet, but the police suspected that the schoolboys got into a home-made plastic barrel boat they found by the bank, and attempted to row it across the stream.

The boat may have sunk in mid-stream and the boys drowned, the police said.

Their families started looking them at around 5pm, after finding that none came back from school. They found an overturned boat floating in the stream.

Police found the boys’ bodies after a 3-hour search.
