At the signing ceremony
Nhan Dan Online- The Record of Discussion (R/D) on the project for enhanced road maintenance capacities phase II was signed on November 11 between the Vietnam Ministry of Transport and Vietnam Japan International Co-operation Agency.
Phase II of the project is expected to start December 2014 and will last three years. Phase II will focus on PMS (Pavement Management System) upgrading in both functions and web-based operations including web-based PMS data operation and pavement data collection for selected routes. Road maintenance and inspection are another focus area for enhancement including pilot projects to support the standardisation of road maintenance and inspection works. Implementation plans to realise project outputs will be studied for recommendation also.
Within the framework of the project, DRVN staff will have a chance to gain more knowledge on road maintenance policies and Japanese technology through training courses in Japan. Japan will also provide the DRVN with equipment and special materials necessary for pilot projects and allow the use of Japanese technology to support the DRVN nationwide. Close cooperation between DRVN staff and JICA Expert Teams will secure the best efficiency and effectiveness in for the technology transfer.
JICA conducted the project’s first phase over 30 months, from September 2011 to March 2014, supporting the DRVN to enhance road maintenance and management capacities.
