A Ho Chi Minh City cop was hospitalized after an HIV-positive woman bit him on Tuesday.
Police say they released the perpetrator, a pregnant 31-year old woman, named Dinh Ngoc Phuong, since she is expecting a child.
Her husband, Nguyen Van Phong, 32, remains in custody for battery on a police officer and vandalism.
The couple, a pair of street vendors, allegedly picked a fight with Phuong’s younger sister over a piece of sidewalk near the front gate at Hung Vuong Hospital in District 5.
The couple reportedly began to attack a group of police officers when they attempted to break up the fight.
Phuong bit an officer on his leg, drawing blood.
The officer, whose name was not released, was taken to hospital for emergency post-exposure treatment after they learned his attacker is HIV-positive.
