The concept of a flea market or a bazaar stems from Western countries. Such places rent space to people who want to sell or exchange goods. Both second-hand and high quality items at low prices are found at such venues.
There are around ten bazaars or flea markets in HCMC’s District 1, 3 and 7 and Phu Nhuan District, including Saigon Flea Market, 2Day Sale, Hello Weekend Market and Sale Hunter. These events have been popular via their Facebook pages with hundreds of thousands of people hitting Like buttons per page.
Sellers or artisans at these marketplaces prefer this kind of business as they can offer products directly to customers and promote their online shops as well. In the meantime, shoppers prefer visiting these places for relaxation as well as for a good chance to purchase trendy clothes, footwear, bags, accessories and household decoration items at discounts from 10% to 20%.
Saigon Flea Market (Level 1, Boomarang Bistro Restaurant, 107 Ton Dat Tien Street, Phu My Hung Urban Zone, District 7, HCMC)
This is an event that has lured the most foreign participants as it takes place at one of the largest residential areas for foreigners in town. The place offers hand-made works by local and foreign artists or some online shops or small businesses that wish to introduce their related products to customers. From a new concept that didn’t appeal to many people at the beginning, Saigon Flea Market has grown to a bimonthly event with around 80 booths. Doan Thu Hang, founder of Saigon Flea Market, said that: “The market is where I want to promote ‘made in Vietnam’ products by local artists and designers to foreign customers.” Fake products are not allowed here.

The shopping venue is one of the events that have attracted the most patrons. It is normally held at Nguyen Du and Phan Dinh Phung indoor stadiums. People come here not only for shopping purpose but also for entertainment as the organizer hosts numerous activities like dancing, music and drama performances. There are also places for people to enjoy food and beverages with reasonable prices. Other attractions are free instructions of makeup, hair styling, and costume matching, among others.
2Day Sale (16 Nguyen Thai Binh Street, District 1, HCMC)
The event which is held every Saturday and Sunday is a popular venue for local teenagers. 2Days Sale consists of over 40 booths offering clothes, cosmetics, and souvenir items at reasonable prices for students. Instead of selling things in an open space like the original concept in Western countries, 2Day Sale is set up inside a four-storey house to help shoppers avoid weather inconvenience. People who have passed by the location will notice a long line of young people queuing up to wait for their turns to get inside to go shopping.

Hello Weekend Market
Hello Weekend Market doesn’t have a stable location to host its events as it depends on the amounts of vendors to find a suitable place. Thus, shoppers have to follow up the event’s venue at its Facebook page http://on.fb.me/1vBNhDJ.
People can buy and exchange things with the others. This is also an ideal place for unique hand-made accessories and interior decoration items.
