(Cinet)- The first Cultural Festival of the Thai ethnic minority group will take place in the northwestern mountainous province of Lai Chau in mid-December 2014.

The event draws the participation of eight provinces, including Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Hoa Binh, Son La, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Nghe An and Thanh Hoa.

Under the theme “Preserving and promoting cultural identities of the Thai ethnic minority group in the country’s renewal and integration process”, diverse cultural activities will be organized during the three-day festival. A range of cultural activities, public art performance, sports and exhibitions of Thai cultural heritage will be organized.

The cultural ministry expects the festival will help participating provinces better understand their responsibility towards cultural preservation and development.

The festival aims to honour the Thai ethnic community’s culture in order to preserve and promote its culture among Vietnamese ethnic minority groups. It will be a chance for communities to exchange experiences and improve the awareness of local authorities and residents about preserving and developing Vietnamese culture for the country’s sustainable development.
