A senior traffic official in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong was taken into custody for accepting bribes on Monday, four days after his deputy leapt to his death at a police station for the same violation.
On October 13, police searched the office of Le Dinh Trong, a deputy head of the provincial traffic inspectors to gather more evidence for their investigation into his bribery.
Trong, 39, who oversaw a vehicle weigh station unit, was summoned to the police station last Thursday with another deputy of his, Nguyen Tan Man.
Man, 37, admitted to taking bribes from numerous overloaded truck owners at the weigh station he oversaw before hurling himself over a balcony on the police station’s second floor.
He was rushed to the hospital immediately after the incident and succumbed to severe injuries 30 minutes later.
