Vietnam’s private airline launches new route using hydroplane
Hai Au airlines, a private air carrier in Vietnam, debuted its new route linking Hanoi and Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh province using hydroplanes on Tuesday.
The debut ceremony was held at the Tuan Chau yacht wharf in the bay, one of the most attractive tourist destinations in northern Vietnam and a World Natural Heritage site.
Accordingly, Hai Au will use two Cessna Grand Caravan EX hydroplanes on the new route between the capital city and the bay beginning today, September 10.
Each of the hydroplanes can carry 12 passengers.
The firm will operate between one and three flights between the two locations per day, and a one-way ticket will cost about VND5.375 million (US$254), not including VAT.
The flights will take about 30 minutes and allow passengers the chance to see beautiful Ha Long Bay from above.
Hai Au will also launch charter services for individuals and organizations.
Yesterday, the first flight on the route was carried out with Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang aboard.
Hai Au expects to expand hydroplane fight services to Ho Chi Minh and areas in the south-central and southern regions.
Potential future routes include those from Ho Chi Minh City to Ne Cape in Binh Thuan province; Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Province; and Can Tho, Chau Doc or An Giang in the Mekong Delta, the firm said.
Hydroplanes may also be used to fly to tourist destinations such as Con Dao, Phu Quoc, and Da Lat, Hai Au added.
