Vietnam is considering promoting tourism on the BBC TV channel, according to discussions at a meeting between a Vietnamese tourism chief and BBC representatives last week.
Nguyen Van Tuan, head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, talked about cooperation on publicity for Vietnamese tourism with the BBC representatives at the meeting in Hanoi last Friday.
The two sides discussed the filming of a 30-second advertising video, which is expected to be broadcast on the BBC next month.
The clip will be aired on BBC Asia-Pacific three times per day for three months.
The BBC also offered to insert a short clip about tourism in Vietnam into each news item on its website.
Tuan, the tourism chief, suggested that the videos should be shot in such destinations as Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Sa Pa Town, and Ninh Binh Province in the north; Quang Binh Province, Hue City, Da Nang City, and Hoi An Ancient Town in the central region; and Ho Chi Minh City and a Mekong Delta province in the south.
Vietnam welcomed 4.85 million foreign visitors from January to July this year, the General Statistics Office said in a report released on July 29.
For the full year, the tourism sector expects to receive 8-8.2 million international visitors and serve 37.5 million local tourists, earning about VND240 trillion (US$11.4 billion) in revenue.
