A private construction company began work on three hotel projects being in central and southern Vietnam without the requisite licenses.
Dien Bien Construction Company No. 1 began work on the Muong Thanh Cua Lo Hotel project in the north-central province of Nghe An in August of 2013.
It wasn’t until May of this year that the provincial Department of Construction discovered that the company had yet to apply for a construction license from the provincial authorities.
A team of inspectors in Nghe An’s Cua Lo Town visited the future site of the hotel and ordered the company to stop work–an order they say the company ignored.
Cua Lo Town authorities inspected the site on numerous subsequent occasions and noted that work continued in spite of their directive, prompting them to summon company representatives on two subsequent occasions.
Construction continued in spite of the meetings, they said.
The hotel now towers 25 stories above the beach and construction remains underway.
The company is presently putting up two other unlicensed hotel projects — the Muong Thanh Mui Ne in the south-central province of Binh Thuan, and the Muong Thanh Sai Gon in Ho Chi Minh City.
