Foreign organisations provide eye care for poor people

(VOV) – The Republic of Korean organisation Vision Care in coordination with the Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology (VNIO) and Ha Giang Eye Hospital have provided eye care check-ups and surgery for nearly 1,000 poor and ethnic minority people in Ha Giang province.

Vu Manh Ha, Vice Director of Ha Giang Eye Hospital, said from September 8-11, Korean and Vietnamese doctors are giving eye care check-ups and treatment for 800 people and surgery for around 150 others.

Local doctors have a good chance to learn experience from their Korean colleagues and apply advanced technology in eye treatment and surgery, Ha said.

*** The Israeli Embassy in Hanoi and the VNIO will offer a free cataract surgery for 200 poor people in Thanh Hoa province’s Tho Xuan district on September 14-15 and Ngoc Lac district on September 16-17.

The operation is funded by the Israeli Embassy and conducted by VNIO doctors.

This is part of a regular charity programme of the Israeli Embassy.

In recent years, instead of organising activities to mark National Day, the embassy has held charity activities hoping to bring practical benefit for the community.

Embassy representatives will visit and present gifts to 140 elderly and disabled children at a social support centre in Thanh Hoa province.
