4 Vietnam teens questioned for rock tossing that claimed man’s eye

Police in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak on Sunday summoned four local teenagers for throwing rocks at three buses and destroying a Ho Chi Minh City man’s left eye.

The four boys, aged between 13 and 16, admitted to having thrown rocks at three buses traveling through Dak Lak on the night of September 24.

The boys said they arranged to meet on National Road 14 that night to wait for buses they could pelt with rocks.

The first attacks shattered windows on two buses at around 8 pm.

Fortunately no one was injured.

These boys later threw rocks at a Co Hai Company bus, shattering the eye of a passenger whose nationality was erroneously identified as Chinese.

Later reports corrected the error.

The victim is a 56-year old Vietnamese national named Truong Trieu Luong who resides in Ho Chi Minh City.

On Friday, doctors at Cho Ray hospital removed his left eyeball and replaced it with a prosthesis.

Local police said they were determining the precise ages of the teenagers.

If they are old enough, they will be charged with vandalism and battery,” Pham Minh Thang, office manager for the Dak Lak police force, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
