The U19 Vietnam football team has overcome their Thailand counterparts in the second half of the semi-final match to win the ticket to the final of Southeast Asian U-22 Football Championship, or Hassanal Bolkiah Cup.

Though not performing well when beginning the game and was put under Thail team’s pressure during the first 15 minutes, the Vietnamese squad then caught up and turned the tide towards their opponent, and maintained their mood until the end of the game.



Even in the first half, the U19 team had 5 chances that can be realized into goals without the misfortune of Tuan Tai, Cong Phuong, and Quang Hai.


In the second half of the match, the Vietnamese team suddenly had advantage over their rival after midfielder Chenrop Samphaodi, captain of the Thai squad, was sent off after receiving his second yellow card for a foul with Quang Hai in the 51st minute.


With more people, the Vietnamese increased the pressure, and their effort was materialized in the 71st minute with a goal scored indirectly by Van Son.


Son received a pass from the free kick of Xuan Truong and kicked into the goal, but his first attempt was cleared by a Thai defender. However, Son’s second effort paid off when the ball hit Netiphong Sanmahung’s foot and rolled into the net after bouncing back from the hand of goalkeeper Peerapong Ruennin.
