bun cha – a famous Hanoi dish.

The embassy staff sold the dish at a mere VND25,000 (US$1.2) per serving to celebrate 45th years of diplomatic relations, Tuoi Tre reported.

Bun cha – a Vietnamese dish of grilled pork and noodles – is believed to have originated in Hanoi. The dish essentially consists of grilled fatty pork (cha) served over white rice noodles (bun) with fresh herbs and a bowl of blended fish sauce.

Tareq Taylor, a chef and TV-personality from Sweden, said he tasted Vietnamese bun cha and found that it is somewhat similar to the Swedish meatball.

He came across the idea of making Sweden-style bun cha and selling it to Hanoian as a way to promote Sweden’s image.

The embassy’s staff served as waiters and waitresses, bringing the food to tables set up under outdoor tents.
