Nhan Dan Online – More than 5.4 million international tourists arrived in Vietnam in the first eight months of 2014, an increase of 12.2% when compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office.
Of the total, 3.3 million arrived in the country for leisure, up 10.5%; 919,757 for business purposes, up 12.9%; 941,515 were visiting relatives, up 15.8 % and 307,309 were in Vietnam for ‘other’ purposes.
Vietnam’s major tourism markets saw impressive growth, including growth from Hong Kong (China) up 52.5%, Germany up 73%, Cambodia up 36%, Italy up 19%, Taiwan (China) up 54.9% and Thailand up 40%.
Of the total foreign travellers to Vietnam, 135,170 visitors came from China, 87,457 from the Republic of Korea, 62,822 from Japan, 32,067 from the US and 24,024 from Russia.
