The second festival of the ‘Khen’ bamboo flutes of the ethnic Mong group will take place in Dong Van district of the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang from August 30 – 31.

The event aims to preserve and popularise the different ways of performing with the instrument, such as dancing with Khen or Khen blowing.

According to the district’s People’s Committee, the festival gives local artisans the opportunity to exchange and share experience with their counterparts from other areas.

During the festival, folklore games such as tree and rope climbing, ball beating, pole pushing, arrow shooting, and nightingale fighting, will be held. Traditional costume shows and local specialties will also be featured.

Organised near the occasion of National Independence Day (Sept.2), the festival is expected to draw a large number of tourists to Dong Van Karst Plateau Geo-park./.
