A Vietnamese youngman drowned, another was injured and two others were missing while they were bathing at a beach in Japan’s Shizuoka prefecture on Friday, according to Japan’s broadcaster NHK.
Local residents reported the deadly incident at 12:25 pm yesterday, NHK said, citing Shizuoka police.
The deceased is Nguyen Ba Tuong, 23, of the Vietnamese northern province of Hung Yen Province, who was an intern at a business in Shizuoka.
Tuong was found dead from serious injuries when washed ashore, while a woman whose name is yet to be identified was saved and is now in stable condition, police said.
Following an hour’s search, Japanese police and firefighters found Tuong’s body 500 meters away from the area where he had bathed.
Rescuers are searching for the two missing people, Do Thi Viet Trinh, a 21-year-old female intern, and 23-year-old Bui Ngoc Diep, a study-abroad male student.
The four Vietnamese victims, along with three others, were swimming at a banned area at the beach in the coastal city of Hamamatsu, according to officers.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan are working with local police and other Japanese competent agencies to search for the two missing people and handle issues arising from the case.
