Ly Giam Tien, the youngest of the show’s Top 3, convincingly beat his two contenders, Hong Lam and Minh Quan, to be named the season’s winner. Lam and Quan were named first and second runners-up.

Tien’s winning collection, which used red, white and black as its main colors, boasted elaborate details and patterns inspired by Paris’s architectural and cultural icons.

He shared that his designs depicted his fashion dream and reflected his impressions of Paris as a dynamic, modern city rather than the classic, romantic Paris many imagine.

Dominique Chardon Savard, principal of Paris-based Atelier Chardon Savard Fashion School, one of the show’s four jurors, highly appreciated Tien’s designs, which are indicative of his experience using rich colors and images.

As part of the show’s awards, Tien will visit the US in September 2014 to promote his latest designs at the 2014 New York Couture Fashion Week, one of the world’s largest fashion events.

Tien, who used to work as a construction worker to support his poor family, has never received any training in fashion design. He was highly regarded during the competition for his rich creativity and dexterous skills.
