The English version of a series on Vietnamese cuisine and tourism, hosted by famed Chinese American chef Martin Yan, will air on American television starting September 2014.
“Martin Yan–Taste of Vietnam,” a 26-episode series, is set to air on KQED, PBS and APT on more than 300 stations across the US starting Sept 6.
The show is airing after a 2-year negotiation process. It aims to promote Vietnamese culinary delights and destinations to the world.
Launched in Vietnam in mid-2013, the show features Yan travelling to 15 provinces and cities across the country: Hanoi, Lao Cai, and Ninh Binh in the north; Da Nang, Hue, and Nha Trang in the central region; and Ho Chi Minh City, Tien Giang and Can Tho in the south. Yan explores and features particular places of interest, intriguing cuisine and culture.
The show has been broadcast on the Asian Food Channel (AFC) in addition to local TV networks.
The renowned chef and his companion, Miss Vietnam 2010 runner-up Hoang My, join local artisans in preparing two to three dishes in each 20-24 minute episode.
The show will also air in 25 other countries.
After almost one year in the making, the show’s sequel, hosted by American chef Robert Danhi, will air on national television channel HTV7 at 9pm every Friday, starting tonight, July 18.
In this 26-episode show, jointly held by Ho Chi Minh City Television and Dien Quan Co., Danhi is featured preparing more than 90 Vietnamese delicacies on the beach, in the forest or in rice paddies, and showcasing the cultural and culinary highlights of the places he has traveled to.
The chef, who loves Southeast Asian gastronomy, especially that of Vietnam, will also prepare specialties in Vietnam’s seas and islands such as central Quang Ngai Province’s Ly Son Island, Ba Ria Vung Tau Province’s Con Dao Island, and Ca Mau Province in the south.
According to the series producer, the good feedback from foreign partners on “Martin Yan–Taste of Vietnam” has paved the way for its sequel on the international market.
