The Finance Ministry and the central province of Ha Tinh on July 19 handed over financial support for Formosa Ha Tinh, a Taiwanese-invested company affected by violence that broke out following China’s illegal installation of an oil rig inside Vietnam’s continental shelf and exclusive economic zone in May.
The People’s Committee of Ha Tinh province provided 30.3 billion VND (over 1.4 million USD) to the steel maker to help its subsidiary companies resume normal operations.
On the occasion, insurance companies advanced 6 billion VND in insurance payment to the company and 14 billion more VND will be paid out in the next few days after necessary procedures are completed.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Finance Minister Tran Xuan Ha reiterated Vietnam’s resolve to ensure a safe and favourable environment for investors.
Chairman of Ha Tinh People’s Committee Vo Kim Cu also promised that the province will always create the best possible conditions for companies operating in Vung Ang Economic Zone to overcome difficulties and resume growth.
Ha Tinh is among some localities where disturbances erupted on May 13-14 during workers’ rallies against China’s illegal dispatch of its oil rig Haiyang Shiyou – 981 in Vietnam’s continental shelf and exclusive economic zone.
Some individuals incited others to destroy the property of foreign firms, the State and private domestic businesses, and acted against law enforcement officials, disrupting social order and business activities.
Authorities have arrested and brought to trial hundreds of rioters.
Last month, affected businesses in the southern provinces of Binh Duong and Dong Nai also received advance of insurance payment worth a total 153.65 billion VND (7.3 million USD).-VNA
