Nhan Dan Online – The Labour Federation of central Binh Thuan province and La Gi town authorities have announced the formation of the Binh Tan fishing syndicate, the fifth of its kind in Binh Thuan.
The Binh Tan syndicate, consisting of 15 boats and 150 members, aims to unite fishermen and help them protect one another against natural disasters and other threats while fishing at sea.
The syndicate gives fishermen an opportunity to express their thoughts and put forward proposals aimed at improving their working and living conditions.
Chairwoman of the Binh Thuan Labour Federation Le Thi Bach Phuong said the establishment of the Binh Tan syndicate resulted from the wishes of local fishermen who wanted greater solidarity for the shared goals of harvesting seafood and protecting national sovereignty.
At the establishment ceremony on July 29, the syndicate received support worth VND1.2 billion (US$56,400) from companies and authorities, including walkie-talkies, insurance and scholarships to fishermen’s children.
Binh Thuan province has more than 7,000 high-powered boats and 50,000 fishermen, with an annual output of 180,000 tonnes.
Local fishing syndicates not only provide direct assistance for fishermen but also support their families through a wide range of activities.
