(Cinet)- A family from Bat Trang Ceramic Village in Hanoi decided to put their craft to work making Vietnamese-made World Cup trophies, which have turned out to be a great success as the event approaches.

Bat Trang is an ancient village, which is very famous for making ceramic products. Many of these ceramic products have been exported for years; as a result, they are a good income for the locals. There is a ceramic market in the village, where we can buy ceramic tile painting, flower vases, tea pots and cups, bowls, plates, spoons, even ceramic dogs.

Enjoying the World Cup 2014 in Brazil, a couple Vuong Hong Nhat and Nguyen Thi Nga got the idea because they are big football fans. Bat Trang has thousands of households which make ceramic products, but Nhat and Nga are the only producers of World Cup trophies there. During the run up to the World Cup, the couple has received a number of large orders from traders from across Vietnam.

They first decided to produce the trophies in 2010, the year the World Cup was held in South Africa. It became more and more popular among customers and they started to produce for wholesalers.

“All the members of his family are avid watchers of football, particularly the World Cup and the Euro Cup. They often stay up all night to see the matches, although they do not always find themselves on the same sides, as likes M.U and his wife supports Chelsea.” Nhat said.

This year, World Cup will mainly take place at night and early morning in Vietnam, but they will try to not miss a match, said Nga.

After mixed, plaster is put into a mould. The mixture is very important and the ratio between plaster and water must be perfect. It takes about a half a hour for the trophy to set, but must be dried for a week before it can be painted. Nhat said the trophy looks very simple, but requires great skill to make. He taught himself how to produce them from bits of information he collected from TV, newspapers and even read comic books.

Each World Cup trophy is sold for VND70,000 (USD3.3). Despite the modest profit, the couple is happy as their product has become so ubiquitous.
