Thousands of youths head for sea and islands

(VOV) – Over 2,000 youth union members participated in the festival “Millions hearts head for sea and islands” held in HCM City on June 14 to share their sentiments towards soldiers on duty in Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago.


They took part in practical activities by signing their names, sending messages and contribute to the “Joint efforts to protect sovereignty over the East Sea” fund launched by the Thanh Nien (Youth) Newspaper.


Diverse activities were also held during the festival including an exhibition on 93 photos and maps on Vietnam’s sovereignty over sea and islands, an art performance, a youth forum and a documentary film.



On the occasion, youths and local residents have raised more than VND700 million to support Vietnam’s law enforcement forces on duty at sea and islands. The newspaper also granted 350 scholarships worth VND1 billion to children of Vietnamese marine police and presented VND100 million and five ICOM radio devices to fisheries surveillance force.
