— A high-level delegation of the Vietnam People’s Army, led by Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, started their four-day visit to Cambodia at the invitation of Commander of the Cambodian Royal Army, General Pol Saruon on Sunday. The visit is intended to assess the results of cooperation between the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and the High Command of the Cambodian Royal Army since last year.
— Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte officially visited Vietnam today (June 16) at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung. He will leave on Tuesday.

— A 22-year-old boy was struck by lightning to death on Sunday when he was grazing on a field in the northern province of Thanh Hoa, according to local authorities.
— Two men were Sunday swept away by a rising tide when they were swimming at a beach in the coastal city of Da Nang. They were later found dead at a location around 200m from the beach.
— More than 600 youths attended a blood donation festival in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday, which eventually collected more than 100 units of blood (1 unit = 250ml).
— Police in District 10, HCMC, announced on Sunday that they arrested 23 football betting suspects following a raid into a café before the FIFA World Cup match between Spain and the Netherlands on Saturday.

— The central city of Da Nang still posted increases in productivity of fisheries and tourist arrivals in the first six months of this year, despite the high tension caused by China over an oil rig it has placed in Vietnamese waters, near the city’s Hoang Sa District, since May, local authorities reported on Saturday.
— Green produce imported from China are widely available across Vietnam, eating up the market share of locally grown products on their home soil.
— A small pottery village in Hanoi is producing products that replicate the prestigious FIFA World Cup trophy and distributing them at only VND70,000 (US$3.5) each.
— Motorbike dealerships in Vietnam’s major cities are struggling to find buyers despite a number of promotional programs, apparently because consumers are practicing thrift in the economic slowdown.

— The Mekong Delta province of An Giang on Sunday reported a 99.64 percent passing rate for the 2014 national high school graduation exam. The rate last year was 98.94 percent.

— More than 20 photos featuring the Dna 90152, a Vietnamese fishing boat that was rammed and sanked by a Chinese ship near the illegal Chinese-run oil rig in Vietnamese waters on May 26, are on display at Da Nang city from June 15 to 30.
— The Vietnam’s 2014 Amazing Race reality show has started shooting and is expected to have its first episode aired on June 21 before running for 11 weeks on VTV6 channel.
