11 Vung Tau men busted stealing scrap metals from Malaysian barge

Coast Guard officers in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province arrested 11 people for stealing scrap materials on a Malaysian barge docked off the coast of Vung Tau, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.

The arrest was made at around 5:30am on Friday (June 20) during a joint patrol of the coast guard and anti-drug police in waters near Front Beach.

They found two boats tied to the Highline 61, a Malaysian barge, and observed the men stealing scrap metals from the vessel.

A total of 11 men were arrested on the two boats after having unloaded about 150 kilograms of scrap metal from the barge.

The boats were registered to Pham Truong Dong and Pham Quoc Hung, both Vung Tau locals.

It was unclear whether or not they were among the arrested.

Coast Guard officials say they are investigating the case further.
