A concert held Sunday night in Vietnam’s capital Hanoi will showcase several performances of an American artist with her oboe, a musical instrument of the woodwind group.
The oboe music concert entitled “Keri and Friends,” in which American Dr. Keri E. McCarthy will play three works by Vietnamese composers Do Kien Cuong and Nguyen Phuc Linh, will take place at 8:00 pm at Manzi art space at 14 Phan Huy Ich Street.
The one-night show will also feature performances of local artists including Le Ba Anh, Vu Tuan Anh, Hoang Dinh Cuong and Nguyen Xuan Son from the Vietnam National Academy of Music, the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra as well as the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet.
The artists will together play well-known masterpieces of such famed music composers as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Robert Schumann, Benjamin Britten, Benedetto Giacomo Marcello, and Georg Philipp Telemann.
Dr. Keri E. McCarthy is currently Associate Professor of Oboe and Music History at Washington State University. She toured Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hanoi in 2008 to perform artworks written by the countries’ local composers.
The oboe is a musical instrument made from a wooden tube with metal keys, a conical bore and flared bell. The sound is produced by blowing into the reed and vibrating a column of air.
