Nhan Dan/VNA – The first round-table workshop seeking an action plan on trade, investment and tourism co-ordination between Vietnam and Malta took place in the Maltese capital of La Valletta on May 5 as part of activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
Strategically located on a maritime route that links Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe, Malta is regarded as a gateway for Vietnamese goods once Vietnam and the European Union (EU) sign their free trade agreement, said Ambassador to Italy and Malta Nguyen Hoang Long.
He voiced his hope that the Mediterranean nation would make it easier for Vietnam to open financial and banking establishments there on the back of its advantageous legal and taxation system.
Commercial Counsellor Bui Vuong Anh spoke highly of Malta’s extensive expertise in navigation, logistics, foreign trade, finance, banking and tourism services.
Home to 420,000 inhabitants, Malta has been an EU member since 2004. It boasts reputable systems of tourism and education, and uses English as an official language.
