- Vietnam futsal targets place in top 8 Asian teams
Experts believe the target is within reach as the hosts, selected among group seeds, do not have to face archrivals in group match series.
In Group A, Kuwait will certainly be Vietnam’s toughest opponents, while Tajikistan and Iraq are considered underdogs.
If Vietnam qualifies for knock-out stage, they will take on one of the four Group B teams namely Iran, Australia, China and Indonesia. Except for Iran, the remaining three teams are not Vietnam’s strong opponents.
Vietnamese players recently completed a training session in Spain where they claimed the championship title at a futsal tournament in Naron city.
The 2014 AFC Futsal Championship will take place at HCM City’s Phu Tho Gymnasium and Ton Duc Thang University Gymnasium.
The tournament has attracted 16 teams Kuwait, Tajikistan, Iraq,Iran, Australia, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Lebanon, Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, the Republic of the Korea, and hosts Vietnam.
All the teams will play in a round-robin format to select two group winners to the quarter-finals.
